Thank you to members assisting we lost Kelly (injury) but had enough to have the 3 fill crews with 4 students in each OC6. One student did mot make it leaving a total of 12.
The weather behaved and all the feedback was positive ranked 5 out of 5 Excellent with one at 4 all comments were - Loved it, Had fun thank you, good workout
Great fun and more.
The feeling if we don’t pick up members we have another group of ambassadors. Well done.
Next Saturday we have Level 2 and 3 have already signed up some others were keen if they can get the time off work so we may pick up some more.
Lindsay and myself will be away and unable to assist I don’t get back until around midday Saturday at the end of the session.
At this stage there is Steve alone and we need another 2 members at least to assist. or it can’t run. Members need to be there from 8.30 to 12.15.
really need a few more to help with the single craft.
Level 2 steps up a peg from level 1, the 3 Punters have forked out $40 each for the privilege. As always weather can cause changes on the day but this is what we have advertised.
An outline of what we have to provide -
This leaves 2.5 hours paddling time.
not necessarily in this order
Another option if the numbers stay at 3 students and 3 members split the session between 3 OC2′s and a OC6.
Cheers
Richard

TERM 1 taking enrolments on line now
Level 1 on the 19th Feb.
Level 2……….. 5th March
Level 3……….. 12th March
TERM 2
Level 1 on the 30th April
Level 1 ………. 7th May
Level 1 ………. 14th May
All are on Saturday mornings 9 am To 12 pm.
The club has a handful of members with training tickets, a minimum of 1 must attend all sessions this but the course is dependant on members support.
What do we have to do.
Keep these dates free you can take it as a am training session instead of 5.30am. Hard core paddlers may like to do both.
Numbers needed ????
no students no session.
1 student its on, we will need 5 members (we could quietly include other collected tryouts)
Maximum to 15 students.
The different levels and numbers will require different support from members eg: 10 students 2 steerers and extra members on single craft check the course description attached.
We don’t know the final numbers until about 5 days before.
Cheers
Richard
Over the last 3 months a variety of members have been assisting in running OC sessions for up to a dozen 12 – 14yo boys from Woodberry Special School. These include Marie, Helen, Lindsay, Richard, Cheffy, George, Donita, Steve + ? ? (sorry if I missed you – a memory thing). It was an interesting time and very much in-the-deep-end exposure to After School activities. Dealing with attention spans measured in milli seconds almost was pretty testing for our steerers!
Next year we might be doing more work with kids (a bit younger) from the local area and unlike this session, most likely after school hours.
This fits in with the push by AOCRA for clubs to focus on encouraging kids to get into OC’ing.
As a follow on from this, we were invited to do a presentation to some of the 60 ASC people from around NSW who are driving the Active After School programme. They were attending a 3 day conference/workshop at Raffertey’s Resort, (Cams Wharf). We had to demonstrate outrigging as an option for them to consider amongst more mainstream land-based sports.
Sooo, we gave them a very brief child-typical introduction on land before bundling them into our 3 canoes for +30 minutes. There was to be no attempt to bury them in fluffy technique etc stuff….just how to hold a paddle and stick it in the water. Back on shore we asked them for ideas on what we could do when planning for our kids next year…..a bit restricted by the size of the canoes but plenty of crazy ideas. Thanx to Marie, Richard, Cheffy, George, Chris for helping Craig , Ed & myself make it happen. It’s a pain dragging canoes around the countryside but that’s why we have got a trailer.
Going forward I can see the ASC mob having hassles locating OC clubs with members who have time and commitment to get behind this programme – even with the carrot of a Gov grant tied to it. Its a pity as its target of kids who are not “active” is very commendable in view of the growing population of unfit / inactive kids. Will need to bring the AOCRA exec up to speed to help promote it.
Steve.
saturday training has been moved to 6am
sunday is still 7:30am
