Both teams are to be congratulated. Behind these results are plenty of “what if’s “ and darn hard work. To their credit, both teams gave it their best shot & were pretty well smashed by the finish. Puts a whole new emphasis on training / time on the water.
Weather on Botany Bay – 10 / 15 knot NE, choppy water, +2m NE swell outside. Short course almost NE, 7.5km, long course to a turning mark a couple km north of Botany Bay.
Short Course: Nathan – steering his first race, good job with a very neat buoy rounding beside ESOCCI !!; John & Alan – first? Race; Isabell – 2nd race; Grant; Steve – 3rd race as stroke.
Regained the lead over the #7 placegetter, ESOCCI, on the return leg thanx to a gutsy effort by all, esp John
Long Course: Jeremy – steered well with no huli’s; Matt Harris – stirring the crew along; Brett Fisher (first regatta); Nathan & Luke Evans, Chris Harris….a mixture of fitness and experience levels
After a well executed start, the team were were ahead of the pack in a very credible 3rdplace before heading North out of Botany Bay and into a whole pile of sloppy stuff. A combination of fatigue from hanging onto 3rd + lack of experience in the not so flat water saw the crew run down…..but still ahead of both Port Stephens crews!
